We compared specific quantitative answers about who the first inhabitants of Argentina were with more in depth qualitative answers about their nation’s political origin. In this respect, a conflict has been found in the way students present the official narrative

History education strongly influences the construction of national identities through so-called myths of origin. Taught and subsequently appropriated by students these myths play an important role in most educational systems and practices. This chapter is concerned with how this happens. For this purpose a number of studies will be analyzed focusing on the interdisciplinary relation between a sociocultural framework and research in learning and representing history.

This paper explores the role of silence in Spain’s post-dictatorship memory politics. More specifically, the paper examines the forgotten Spanish colonial past in North Africa vis-à-vis the so-called pact of silence that accompanied Spain’s transition to democracy after the Franco dictatorship.

This study analyzes the relations among social representations and prejudice against indigenous people in a small city, where the descendants of both military people and the European immigrants who arrived at the beginning of the 20th century.
